In 2017 and 2018, Resource Equity, with support from the Ford Foundation, explored the idea that civil society organizations in Eastern Africa are uniquely positioned and qualified to enter into collaborative partnerships with private sector actors, communities, and governments to bring about socially responsible investments in extractive resources and land. With a particular emphasis on women, the project was aimed at exploring and articulating the potential for beneficial collaborations between CSOs and the private sector, to identify challenges to such collaborations, and to propose possible solutions to these barriers. This situation summary (LINK) describes the project and the results.

"The Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) is committed to promoting pro-poor land policies, legislative processes, land administration systems and procedures. The costing and financing of land administration services (CoFLAS) directly addresses one of the 18 core land tools identified by GLTN; that is, 'modernizing the land agencies’ budgetary approach'. This document provides a practical implementation guide that accompanies the overarching Framework for Costing and Financing Land Administration Services (CoFLAS) tool document."
Prepared for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
"The Evaluation, Research and Communication (ERC) project was a five-year initiative under the Strengthening Tenure and Resource Rights (STARR) indefinite quantity contract. Implemented from May 2013-July 2018, the goal of ERC was to create, expand and communicate evidence-based knowledge around best land tenure and property rights practices in order to enhance internal USAID and external U.S. Government learning, guide program design and implementation, and make effective use of development resources to accomplish key development objectives."
Facts, Solutions, Case Studies, and Calls to Action
"The evidence collected in this discussion paper shows that gender equality is critical to achieving a wide range of objectives pertaining to sustainable development. These include promoting economic growth and labour productivity, reducing poverty, enhancing human capital through health and education, attaining food security, addressing climate change impacts and strengthening resilience to disasters, and ensuring more peaceful and inclusive communities. It therefore argues that accelerating gender equality in all spheres of society leads to a more rapid increase in progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda."
